Ever wake up and wonder if the internet is better viewed as collection of connections or as an accumulation of actions. Probably not. The level of sociological / computer geekdom required to bother with a question like that naturally implies you do not get enough sleep to wake up wondering anything, save the merits of coke vs. earl gray in the morning. It is a point-of-view matter, in any case. Depending on the context, either might be better. A lot of things are like that. It can be depressing. Brought up in a world where truth underpins our daily lives, where we take comfort in the imagined absolutes of those truths stretched out across infinity. Only to stand befuddled when truth acts like a rainbow in both appeal and substance. A beautiful thing, but really hard to pin down. Are we living in a reality of consenting adults? Better than a reality of coerced adherents, I suppose? Well, that depends…I mean, my kids have it pretty good as the latter.
Recommended Movie: 28 Days Later. Just note that this might be a solo effort, as it is technically a zombie flick. I could not take the kids and my girlfriend would not go. Lots of anxiety, little blood, no porn. The story line is a nice take on the Utopia theme: how do with balance our animal rage with our human compassion. In these times, where an individual's rage can carry dire results for large numbers of people, the topic struck a nerve. Unfortunately, in the literature and movie, a lot of the paths taken to achieve balance, or perhaps better stated as - just survive, often seem as unpleasant as letting fate run its course. Case in point, do we abandon our bill of rights, which could be viewed as a protection against one type of rage, to protect ourselves against another form? Oh, and it is a zombie flick, so the infected (or coerced adherents, one might say) do provide a few, not so subtle, pokes at popular culture. Example: The lead character's first encounter with the faceless horde is in a church, pews packed, with the preacher looking for one more conversion, sort to speak.
